REVIEW: Antarktis Utopia - Views From Above Self-financed, 2003
7.5/10
Antarktis Utopia - Views From Above - cover art Besides my family, my beautiful girlfriend and our "soon to be born" there is nothing in this world that I love higher than Finnish metal (and beer – go Lapin Kulta!!!). Anyone I know could confirm this. So it is always with utmost excitement I receive demos, or albums for that matter, from Finnish bands. The latest demo from mentioned country to land in my lap comes from the band Antarktis Utopia and as always the quality is high. Technical death metal with references to bands like Death and Morbid Angel is always welcomed into my stereo and Antarktis Utopia deliver their own brand with conviction. These youngsters (I believe) know their instruments like the backs of their own hands and also they are already mature composers. Perhaps none of the songs on here will live on and be thought of as a classic in the genre (this is a demo, mind you) but they sure prove their abilities and when the opportunity comes to record a full-length there’s no doubt in my mind they will deliver one hell of an album. Very talented bunch! I urge all death metal maniax to look 'em up!
