Antimatter is the kind of band every Anathema fan (latest Anathema, I must remark) should know, enjoy and love. This album won´t let any of these down, that´s for sure. Well, it´s not really an Anathema pt. II nor anything similar; I haven´t said that due to strict similarities. It´s the vibe reflected in these songs, quite in the vein of the works of the Cavanagh brothers. If we take the layout, too, it could fit perfectly in the patterns of the band (I feel sort of a similarity between this one and “Alternative 4”, the letters used and so on...). Even there´s a song called “Eternity part 24”... Male vocals are also similar. The guitar arrangements, mellow and hazy, the melancholic touch of the songs in general... very Anathema-esque, certainly, but... it doesn´t sound exactly like Anathema, despite having some parallel things. Besides that band, “Planetary Confinement” could sound like Opeth mellow parts or some neofolk act in its moody feeling. There´s nothing really new here; sure you´ve listened to tranquil albums, based mainly on vocals, accoustic guitars and folk structures. However, this album is very good. Antimatter have completed an album full of heartfelt and strongly emotional songs. Simple, but effective when creating sensual pieces of music trespassing the skin with shivers. Pretentiousness is out, the spotlight is put on the music itself. Guitar notes and vocals are the keyword here, with a few percussives, decent keys (I really mean “decent keys”... forget about cheap electronics) and even a violin. The splendid beauty of “Epitaph” or the intense “Legions” have been my favourite moments of this planetary confinement, because this album tries to do just that, confine you in another planet, where feelings are nude and emotions speak without ornaments, being the music crystalline and straight to your soul. Ethereal melancholic music clearly recommended.
