REVIEW: Anvil - Plenty Of Power Massacre Records, 2001
6.5/10
Anvil - Plenty Of Power - cover art The Canadians in Anvil never seem to give up. It has now been twenty years since they released their debut album Hard 'n' Heavy and this is their eleventh full-length so far. Fans of old style classic heavy metal in the vein of Manowar, Black Sabbath and others may have a good time with this album but to me their thrashy heavy metal seems a bit outworn and gets boring after two or three songs. Not that the music is bad in any way, Anvil is still a band of very talented guys that have been in the business for a very long time. As a live act on a festival or as party music this might suit very well but just playing the cd does not bring out anything special. I know that Anvil has gathered a lot of fans out there in the past 20 years and as I´ve said the music is not that bad. Just give it a listen before deciding on buying it would be my advice to you. A couple of tracks like "Plenty Of Power" and "Computer Drone" are really great but other than those the album is a little plain with edgeless songs. Perhaps it's time for Anvil to retire once and for all, twenty years is a long time... If you like softer but still heavy metal in the old 80's style give this a shot but otherwise leave it be and you'll be a happier human being.
