The Spanish band Anvil Of Doom has a sound which is hard to describe in words but the first thing that struck me while listening to this new demo of their's was the strong sense of melody present on this recording. Another thing is that they have not limited themselves to one single genre. Instead we can find influences from most genres - there are traces of traditional heavy metal, thrash metal riffs, atmospheric doomy sections and black, somewhat Cradle Of Filth-like, vocals, not to forget about the Swedish melodic death metal melodies. The band has a talented lead guitarist who executes some very good solos on this demo. Anvil Of Doom have many interesting melodies and arrangements to show off but the problem is that the songs are a little too unstructured and chaotic for the band to reach their full capacity. It will nonetheless be interesting to see where they're at when Xtreem Music releases their debut album some time next year (2004).
