This EP disappointed me. What you essentially get is one song (the title track) from Arch Enemy's latest studio release, three live tunes, three covers songs and a video clip. The lives songs are pointless because they barely sound live, and live songs are simply boring when they offer nothing different from the studio versions. The cover songs, for the most part, are the only thing worth a damn on this EP and that's pushing it. The cover of Megadeth's "Symphony Of Destruction" is horrendous! Angela's vocal performance here is nothing short of horrible! It's flat, boring and shows that she clearly has a good growl, but no range whatsoever. The music is also boring. The guitars are downtuned and have a weird distortion effect on them, and the song is played in the wrong key — and even simply played wrong in many areas. Terrible cover. The next two fair better. The first is a Manowar cover and though I've never heard the original, that I can recall, this version comes off clean and smooth and sounds like it could be an Arch Enemy tune. The next is a Carcass cover and considering that Mike Amott was in Carcass when this song was written it really seems too easy of a choice of cover material. It's also so similar to the original it seems even more pointless. Still, it is a good cover and I enjoyed listening to it. I didn't watch the video, but I have seen it on the On-Demand music channel here and it's not a bad video, just a live performance, so it's cool having it at the ready whenever you may want to watch it.
All in all this EP offers two tracks that I feel are worth checking out. I'd encourage only avid fans and collectors of the band to buy this EP, unless you can get it for $4 like I did. At least they didn't put any ridiculous Japanese kareoke versions of songs on this EP like In Flames did on their EP!
