REVIEW: Arch Enemy - Wages Of Sin Century Media, 2002
9/10
Arch Enemy - Wages Of Sin - cover art I fell in love with Arch Enemy on their fantastic revelation "Stigmata", jumped again on the wagon with "Burning Bridges", before getting big "x-mas package" eyes also to their 4th album "Wages of Sin". You can't get melodic death metal any tighter or more well-played than this. The band has capacities beyond the normal, leaving the Amott brothers in charge of the guitars that sweep their way through your brain and never leaving the tunes out again. "Wages of Sin" is simply so well done in all ways, that it will be hard for any band to overcome this album in this genre. You might call it a salestrick to having replaced old vocalist Liiva with a woman, but hell, who can hear that there is a marvellous woman behind the microphone, growling like the beast inside ? The album has now also been released with a bonusdisc here in Europe, probably to replace some credit due to many delays, featuring alot of goodies in videos, coversongs (for example Maiden and Priest!) and just making this album a clear investment for fans of melodic death metal. Personally I deduct a small point for the production that might become too sterile in the heavydepartment, but listening to this, it's easy to define a classic.
