REVIEW: Arhont - Promo 2006 Self-financed, 2006
8/10
Arhont - Promo 2006 - cover art Basically I don’t like such short demo materials, because two, or even three songs are not enough for a proper impression of a band. But, in case of Arhont I am quite happy I got this material, because it’s one of the best Death metal recordings to come up from Balkan (or South-eastern Europe as they call it now) in several years. Although only two songs are recorded, and they are the first songs the band managed to compose, it leaves a solid impression about mid tempo Death Metal with a German Thrash edge, sometimes even reminding of Morbid Angel with some solos and squeaking. The riffs are simple, but very effective and are flowing with ease just like some rolling battle machine. Melodies are catchy and you can get into the Arhont mood quickly, no need to adapt, or something. Double bass drums are constantly roaring in the back, while the snare drum is not about speed. The vocal style used is growling and that’s also done nicely. The production may be somewhat weak, but everything is still very audible and well balanced, just that special power obtained through the production is not present. Perhaps another minus is that the release comes without any cover (apart from CD box), so one dimension for a proper release is missing completely, altogether with any info or lyrics. So, if it was more than two songs the review would be longer, and perhaps the mark would be higher, but this is very satisfying for now. Band contact: arhont@darksites.com
