The debut album "The Godly Work Of Art" from the Swedes of
Arise was praised by many when it arrived in the year 2001 and now the
Alingsås based band have recorded enough material for a follow-up. "Kings Of
The Cloned Generation" follows pretty much the same pattern as the first
album with thick guitar layers, aggressive riffing, nice melodies and the
laid-back growling vocals which is the standard procedure when it comes to
melodic death metal today. While not bringing us anything new Arise is still
one of the better bands of the second generation of Swedish death / thrash
metal together with well-known names such as Soilwork and Darkane. While
others become more neo-thrash influenced with each released Arise maintains
the At The Gates melodies and Bay area riffing that has laid the foundation
for their success thus far. This despite the fact that they started out
playing covers from bands like Sepultura, Pantera and Machine Head. Arise is
also living proof of the fact that hard work eventually pays off. Since their
formation back in 1994 they have recorded no less than five demos and now they
are releasing their second album and are out on tour to support the mighty
Vader. Aggression vs melody is the ultimate description of what this is all
about. Even though Arise will not break any new ground musically speaking with
this release it is still a recommended piece of metal for those who like it
fast, melodic and aggressive at the same time. The album is very even and
there are not really any hit songs that stick out from the rest. Just like
their debut it was recorded at Studiomega with Christian Silver as producer
and cover art provided by Dark Tranquillity's own Niklas
Sundin.
