REVIEW: Artimus Pyledriver - Artimus Pyledriver DRT Entertainment, 2006
7/10
Artimus Pyledriver - Artimus Pyledriver - cover art If Nashville Pussy is to your liking, Artimus Pyledriver will likely be right up your alley, too, considering that both of these bands were spawned in the dirt and grime of Georgia. Both bands feature a potent blend of AC/DC with the southern swagger of Lynyrd Skynyrd though Artimus Pyledriver sounds like the band were dragged backwards through a swamp. Yes, swamp swagger is what Artimus Pyledriver is all about, folks. Having seen them open for Hank Williams III when they were still unsigned and having purchased their CD-R only Southern Fried EP -- all the songs of which appear here, incidentally -- there was something about their vibe and sound that captured my attention. On the realization of their full length debut that something is still there, only spread over 9 songs and 40 minutes it wears a bit thin. Still, if southern fried Stoner a la a less groovin' Alabama Thunderpussy is your thang, Artimus Pyledriver will kick you where you need to be kicked. Good stuff that works better in small doses.
