REVIEW: Asgaard - Ex Oriente Lux Metal Mind Records, 2001
3/10
Asgaard - Ex Oriente Lux - cover art I don't know much about this band, but I must admit that my curiosity after listening to them is like zero too. Before putting it on I feared a 2nd rate Cradle of Filth clone, but luckily that didn't come... Instead I was so lucky (or...wait a second here!) to get a 2nd rate gothic horror metal album, which leads nowhere, and makes me sad on their behalf.. It's symphonic overly pompous extreme metal seems to sometimes take on a B-graded brand of such a glorious thing as Devil Doll, and sometimes seemingly trying to create a b-graded King Diamond...You can't do that and get away with it! Asgaard is unfortunately not talentless in everything though, as they seem to somewhat know what they do with their instruments, but I suggest them to put them away, and use their creativity in other fields, as this album is nothing but a waste from beginning to the end, counting all the 44 minutes this pain lasts.
