Facing the truth, there aren't many female
extreme metal bands in the world, can you
name one ? Beside Astarte ? Well,
one (Sacralis from Germany) but apart from them,
me neither...
Astarte has
even done a long road already, this disc with the far too complicated
name,
being the third. I remember I listened to their demo back in '98, being
just
moderately impressed by their skills. Their first 2 albums I didn't get
to listen to though,
but out from my sources, I was told they were quite grim
black metal. This third I
followingly also expected to end out as a pretty
raw affair, but I am actually
surprised on how complex this album has turned
out.
They give you all here. They maintain their somewhat brutal approach,
and clinging
it with melodies and atmosphere. And the most important thing is
that it works!
So, when I personally would redefine this as "dark-metal", I
can't say they loose
all their metal instincts here, as it still kicks. But,
when they sweep over here with
adding some clean and acoustic guitars, some
very nice synthparts, it just sounds
more complete and also as a uniting
album, ofcourse adding the specter of a very
good and clean production. An
album that has a soul and a effect that you might
remember it for the songs
it has. A very good creation this is, and without sounding
too sexist, I am
impressed by the three beautiful girls behind it. Not because it's a
female
band, it's because it's a good album! Check them
out!
