REVIEW: Astimi - TrinaCapronum Inch Productions, 2001
6/10
Astimi - TrinaCapronum - cover art On Sicily there are a number of active bands connected to their own newly formed label Inch Productions. One of these are Astimi who represent the more extreme side of these bands, mixing together influences from Deicide and Morbid Angel with their own personal touch. As it seems these musicians are a group of very talented and intellectual people who have found a way to honor the ancient times when Sicily was in the centre of Europe. Astimi is playing extreme death metal and they are doing it fairly well although they do tend to get a little bit monotonous just like their partners in crime Morbid Angel and Deicide. They do not reach that level of perfection yet but fans of the genre may find something enjoyable on this album. To me it seems like Astimi is the least interesting of these Sicilian bands and I think they should focus on the black metal bands more than creating and nurturing another Morbid Angel clone. Don't get me wrong, this is not bad but it doesn't really bring us anything new. The production isn't the best possible either but the growling is pretty well done and makes up for some of this.
