I wasn't very impressed with the last
album from this German band but this time they have at least improved a
little. The songs are more complex and the choruses are nicer than last time.
They have also left their old record company Shark Records who apparently
didn't treat them very well and signed with the bigger AFM Records. Let's
just make it clear right away: there is nothing whatsoever that is unique
about this band since they are one of many good power metal bands to rise form
Germany during the 90's. Now that was a little lie because there is one thing
that separates this band from most others and that is the obvious influences
from classical music which makes their music very impressive at times. They do
their thing very well and apart from the sometimes redundant guitar solos this
is a very good album indeed if you are into this kind of music. The music is
fast, heavy and full of technical show-offs that probably would make even the
mighty Swedish viking Yngwie Malmsteen slightly impressed. "Take My Pain" is
definitely one of the best tracks At Vance have written so far and I must
admire the vocalist of the band Oliver Hartmann who has an amazing voice and
also the ability to use it the best way possible. Oliver was also one of the
vocalists on Tobias Sammet's metal opera project Avantasia. The album was
recorded at Heavens Gate and the mixing was done by maestro Sascha Paeth. A
good solid power metal release but nothing
extraordinary.
