Atmosfear is a gathering of musicians from other bands like Coloured Dreams, Into Neverland and YAWP! that decided to start a band where no-one had to compromise. Their goal was to make progressive rock and that's something they've succeeded in doing. There's even more to it. I can hear traces of funk, jazz and something that might be metal. Since the start in 1996/97 the band has toured with bands like Pain Of Salvation, Loch Vostock, Freak Kitchen and Evergrey, just to name a few. This very long album has a very strong production, the only thing that I would like to change would be the keyboard sounds here and there. It has a tendency of sounding a little bit plastic, and a little bit dry from time to time. But it's really not something that bothers me that much. This album will be absolutely loved by people who think Symphony x and Dream Theatre are a little bit too pretentious. As for me, I am impressed mostly by the variation that this album provides. At the end of the first track I am reminded a little about a very, very nice Meshuggah. All those very rhythmical riffs on the guitar is something that I appreciate a lot. The second track starts with a riff that is very much stoner rock, until a very funky keyboard riff takes over and becomes something completely different. The album is filled with instrumental parts that can be great if you're in the right mood. The only thing that I really don't appriciate at all are, like I mentioned, the keyboard solos, mostly because of the chosen sound. Bottom line is that these guys know what they're doing and they mix styles in a very tasteful way. Also the lyrics seem personal and somewhat easy to understand. I guess that the only thing I can really say is that this isn't my style of music at all. Maybe that's why I don't appreciate that the songs are so long, or that the record has so many tracks on it. And the songs and melodies are not built up with a real structure which means that you might have to listen to this album many times before you know what's going to come next. Either way I tend to lose focus from time to time. But nevertheless I am sure that many people will like this album, even if I am not one hundred percent convinced. Like I said, it's not my type of thing.
