REVIEW: Atrox - Contentum Season Of Mist, 2000
9/10
Atrox - Contentum - cover art I was first interested in this band from an ad in the Metallian magazine because it was described as "The most progressive band with female vocals". This sounded like my type of thing so I got myself a copy and started to listen. I was instantly surprised and very happy to have discovered a very interesting, different and unique band. What really amazed me was the singer's voice. Monika can do and does everything she wants with her vocal instrument. Never in my life did I hear someone who sings like that. She is an incredibly gifted singer. She sings, screams, talks like a kid, makes funny noises and tonalities ... I don't know where she learned to sing but it sure isn't at the same place as all those crappy cute pop singers like ... you know who they are. That's not all, she plays synthesiser and the paintings on the album are done by her. Very talented lady who will throw you off, kick you in the ears, then pick you up in a very charming embrace with her vocal instrument. These musicians are capable of some excellent Avant-garde Prog type of compositions that are realy thrilling. You can also find some more heavy numbers for your meaty desires. The constant change of mode that this album offers leads to a beautiful ballad and can be considered to a certain point as a modern time lullaby. Atrox has a lot to offer and if you're in for something different, well this this should satisfy your open minded oriented taste. Some of my prefered ones are: "Sultry", "Lizard Dance", "What Crawls Underneath".
