REVIEW: Atrox - Terrestrials Season Of Mist, 2002
6/10
Atrox - Terrestrials - cover art Some bands are doomed to forever roam the musical underground not because of them being lousy musicians but the reason being that their music is too weird or complex to ever be embraced by mainstream media. The Norwegian band Atrox is one of those and their experimental brand of metal has been labelled as "schizo-metal". This is a term that works for me because listening to this band is one of the strangest experiences you will ever have in your life. The music might be described as progressive metal but it is the female vocals from Monica that make Atrox so special. Ranging from spoken words through regular clean singing to high-pitched screams she really puts her mark on every new Atrox album. The thing with a band like this is that you will probaly either love or hate the music, in this case depending mostly on whether you like the vocals or not. Atrox have definitely walked their own way in the world of metal and there are really no other band like them today even though some elements remind me of some Norwegian gothic metal bands like Myriads and Madder Mortem. Honestly I don't know what I think about this album, it never really gets my full attention although it is still nice to listen to.
