REVIEW: Audiovision - The Calling Rivel Records, 2005
7.5/10
Audiovision - The Calling - cover art Audiovision is more or less the solo project of Narnia front man Christian Rivel where he is able to express himself in terms of melodic hard rock / heavy metal. Participating on his debut album are many of the finest names from the Christian rock / metal community: Bruce Kulick (Kiss), Lars Chriss (Lion's Share), Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman), Mic Michaeli (Europe), Mattias "IA" Eklundh (Freak Kitchen) just to mention a few. This kind of name dropping is kind of pointless to me but the reason they are there is of course partly to sell a few more copies of the album and then I might as well mention them. What matters in the end is who has written the music. From one aspect I must say that it is absolutely wrong to put the name Audiovision equal to Christian Rivel as he has not written any of the music himself. Instead Lars chriss seems to have been the main creative force and he has done his job very well together with a few other collaborators. "The Calling", "The King Is Alive" and in particular "Face To Face" are all very strong tracks that are worth talking about. Unfortunately some other songs are less impressive due to their generic nature. The Sweet cover "Love Is Like Oxygen" should make some people happy I guess but I don't think it fits in all too well with the rest of the material on this disc. The debut album from Audiovision is a solid piece of quality music though and I think Christian Rivel makes his most impressive vocal performance ever here. The religious nonsense found in the lyrics I could have been without but the music is what counts in the end.
