REVIEW: Austin - Go Big Or Stay Home Frontiers Records, 2002
6/10
Austin - Go Big Or Stay Home - cover art Jeff got his first break in 1993 when producer and musician (Wrabit / Lee Aaron) John Albani greatly contributed for the creation of a 4 - song E.P. The single "Lisa received heavy airplay. Then Jeff worked with Mark Severns (Firehouse). The two commenced working on Jeff's album "Go Big Or Stay Home". Jeff produced, wrote and arranged, handled drums, keys and backing vocals duties. Mark handled engineering, all guitars, backing vocals mixing and mastering duties. Rex Alan guitarist, songwriter and backing vocalist with Iron Cross hanlded the bass duties and Mark Roebuck handled the lead vocals. This debut album features also two very interesting cover songs "So You Ran" written by Barry Goudreau of Boston (originally recorded by the band Orion The Hunter) and "I'm A Fighter" a Cobra / Van Zant song written by none else than Jimi Jamison (Survivor) and guitarist Mandy Meyer of Asia / Gotthard fame. As you can tell by the cover songs, Jeff Austin plays pure 80`s style AOR very similar really to Wrabit, Van Zant and Sheriff. Surely this album is going to be appreciated by the hard-core AOR fans exclusively.
