REVIEW: Autumn Clan - Requiem To The Sun W.A.B. Records, 2002
8/10
Autumn Clan - Requiem To The Sun - cover art When looking for information on this Austrian band I happened to look at a photo of the band members and one of them looks scaringly much like Raymond of Theatre Of Tragedy. This might be a coincidence but the music of Autumn Clan does have a few things in common with the unique industrial brand created by ToT during the last couple of years. Autumn Clan is using samples rather sparse though and it is mostly the gothic touch that ToT still has that is the common link between the two bands. Enough said about this piece of meaningless information. Autumn Clan formed in 1997 and have recorded two demos and played more than 50 shows before being given the chance to release this debut album through their home-based label Wait And Bleed Records who have a keen interest in the rich gothic scene that flourishes today in the German speaking countries of Europe. This album contains all the ingrediences for a successful gothic atmosphere - emotional lyrics, strong passionate vocals and a feeling of gloom that saturates every song. There are plenty of catchy rhythms, heavy riffs and groovy melodies as well that should please many people, not just in Austria but all around the world. Fans of newer Katatonia should be interested in checking out this debut album from a very promising newcomer band.
