Avrigus unveils its secret kingdom through the ten episodes
presented on this album. This Australian band is made of only two persons:
Judy Chiara on keyboards, piano, acoustic guitar, vocals and she wrote all the
lyrics. Her male companion, by the name of Simon Gruer, takes care of
keyboards, guitars, bass, drums and vocals. This is a very ambiant and
mystical recording that will please the fans of Dargaard and Grabesmond. You
can hear a touch of heavy partitions blessing half of the songs. "Solitude &
Salvation" and "Dark Angels' Ascension" are both strong and beautifully
dark melodies. Other lowlights beauties are "Flesh" and "The Grail"; all
those having a sound of keyboards reminiscent of classic King Crimson with
their agile use of mellotron. Clean vocals will guide you on this journey.
Most of them done by Judy who has a very pleasant voice that ranges from
medium to high tonalities. The latest being the most charming one. You can
fully enjoy her talent on "Veritas" where she backed herself up with vocals
and guitars on this nice romantic ballad. You'll have the chance to meet
three instrumentals along the road. "Overture" is a dark and symphonic
piece. As dark as mysterious are "Desolate" and "Shade Of My Heart". The
influence on this album is highly classical in its electronically chosen
instruments which will send to your ears a gentle breeze of doomy symphonic
gothic orchestrations. Not recommended for Death, Black, Power metal maniacs.
Still, it's worth the experience because the compositions are well structured
and quite refined.
