REVIEW: Axenstar - Far From Heaven Arise Records, 2003
7.5/10
Axenstar - Far From Heaven - cover art Axenstar is a melodic power metal band from Sweden... After reading this sentence most of you may think 'No, not again!', since there have been lots of new power metal bands recently. Only a few of them have the potential to jump off this train of new bands which mostly sound more or less all quite similar. To me it seems like Axenstar is still trying to break away from all these bands, but their latest album "Far From Heaven" is indeed stronger than their debut "Perpetual Twilight". Of course you can still recognize their biggest influences like Helloween, Sonata Arctica and Rhapsody in their songs, but this doesn't mean that they are copying these bands. Axenstar is a band full of energy and their songs have catchy melodies, speedy parts, nice guitar solos and actually everything you need to become a good power metal band. The only thing that is missing is something unique that lets them jump off this train which is really hard at this time having plenty of these new bands. The album itself includes 10 powerful tracks, though none of them seems to be a real big hit. Best songs of this album would be the title-song "Far From Heaven", "Children Forlorn" and perhaps "Abandoned". Who knows? Maybe these guys find their own style and bring up a follow-up album which can top this here. Nevertheless, if you are a fan of this genre and especially if you like these influencial bands mentioned above, you really should check out Axenstar.
