REVIEW: Aydra - Hyperlogical Non-Sense Rising Works, 2004
7.5/10
Aydra - Hyperlogical Non-Sense - cover art The Italian band Aydra have been playing metal since 1985 but then under the name Hydra and in the beginning with a slightly different musical approach. Since these early years they have released more than a bunch of records and tapes and the sound evolved to the the latest recording up to date is very melodic but still brutal/harsh. The songs feel neetly worked-out and you can hear that these guys know each other and have worked with each other to produce this material. The band has also added some computer effects which I sometimes thinks disturb the earlier so clean sound of riffing guitars and pounding drums. Some sweepers though fits more than great and raises the atmosphere.
The bass on this album is great, I must say. When the guitars are riffing it really provides with a roughness making the guitars sound more aggressive. And when the guitars are screaming and are pulling high-note harmonies it stays there in the back keeping the background arrangements on the same level. Wonderful. ”Hyperlogical Non-Sense” is a diverse yet compact album of great riffing and a beautiful sense of melody is shown. Aydras’ death metal does not sound Italian, but it sounds European with ingredients from the different camps around here. This is a good, not to say great album of splendid musicianship.
