REVIEW: Baalphegor - The End of Descent (promo) Self-financed, 2003
5.5/10
Baalphegor - The End of Descent (promo) - cover art This is peculiar. In my hand I have a 3 track promo-CD by Spaniards Baalphegor. The disturbing thing is that this is a promo for a self-financed CD, what I would call a demo. Why not send the entire demo for review? Strange indeed, and quite annoying. Making me write a review for a promo for a demo... Very well, to the actual music then. Baalphegor delivers death metal of the brutal kind. Nothing fancy, just old school death metal. The sound quality is decent, but not more than that. The drums sound programmed to me, but they claim to have a drummer. In a live review it was mentioned that the gig in question was their last for some time due to the drummer who had sustained some sort of serious injury. Perhaps a drum machine was a solution just to get the demo done. If it’s not a drum machine, well, hails to Alfredo for being "a machine". Fat, varied riffing and quite good vocals show some promise for the future, but I definitely want the drum machine to go. I find it really weird sending a promo of a demo for review. They might call it an actual release if they want to, but they appear to be unsigned, and the quality is closer to a demo than a "real" release, so I see no point to this at all, but perhaps there is one, who knows?
