REVIEW: Bathory - Destroyer Of Worlds Black Mark Production, 2001
7.5/10
Bathory - Destroyer Of Worlds - cover art The thirteenth album from the black metal legends Bathory is finally here to strike the world. Being album No 13 you might be scared of having bad luck but this is something Bathory seems to have been able to stay away from throughout their career which is one of the longest for any extreme metal band ever. A lot has changed musically since the early days of Bathory when raw black metal with crappy wound was the way to go. Now the music is a lot more varied but it is still heavy and covered with the cozy sound coating that only Bathory can accomplish. Something I really like is the use of acoustic guitars on many of the tracks. Quorthon is using his clean voice (as clean as that gets...) almost exclusively these days but this doesn't stop him from screaming off on a couple of tracks either. This is the band whose album was once upon a time labelled "the most evil record of all time" by Kerrang magazine but during the last couple of years Quorthon has done his best trying to destroy all myths concerning the band. No matter what he has once again been able to compose a great metal album that will not disappoint any fans of the band. Nothing can stop this man!
