REVIEW: Beaten Back To Pure - Southern Apocalypse Retribute Records, 2001
7/10
Beaten Back To Pure - Southern Apocalypse - cover art Once in a while you listen to a record and you are wondering why you haven't heard about this band before. The southern laden stoner rock metal band Beaten Back To Pure is one of these. The killer riffs and the heavy groove of the opening track is simply incredible and together with the ultra-brutal vocals this is a band that could please a wide variety of metal fans. Unfortunately the following tracks aren't of quite the same quality but considering the fact that this band has only been alive for something like three years you can't expect them to make a perfect album right away. In the end this album sounds a little monotonous and the throaty vocals slightly annoying but there are still plenty of nice groovy parts and exciting riffs that I really love. If you are into this stoner rock inspired heavy metal kind of thing or even death metal then this is a band totally worthy of your attention, not just because of the style they're playing but also that they are good at what they do. Beaten Back To Pure is a band with a lot of potential and I would love to see them live on for many a year.
