REVIEW: Beecher - This Elegy, His Autopsy Earache Records, 2005
7/10
Beecher - This Elegy, His Autopsy - cover art Finally it is here, the new Beecher album. Their debut received a lot of praise from the critics and the expectations on the follow-up are really high. Beecher is a band that isn’t limited to a single genre. Already in their debut, 'Breaking The Fourth Wall', they showed us that they would not stay within the frames of conventional hardcore or metal. On ‘This Elegy, His Autopsy’ they keep pushing the limits even further. The opening track ‘It’s Good Weather for Black Leather’ almost live up to the expectations with its intensity, dominated by influences from technical metal, but the quintet doesn’t stop here. In every new track there is a new sound, new influences that have been incorporated and delivered with the same aggression as Beecher plays everything else. ‘...And on the day that he became a human plumb line’ could fit in a good pop album. Surprisingly, despite all different genres, ‘This Elegy, His Autopsy’ work as one album. The reason that it doesn’t feel like just a collection of tracks is that Beecher are good musicians and they manage to keep up their frenzy throughout all the songs. And this is a good record, if you liked ‘Breaking The Fourth Wall’ you will probably like this one as well although it hasn’t got quite the same high standard as their prior one.
