I have seen very few reviews on this new album from Belphegor which I find rather strange as they are one of the most established bands on the Austrian black metal scene. Now that they are signed to Napalm Records they should also receive some attention which they have earner for a long time. The band's raw sound from the past has now been brushed up with a powerful production courtesy of Atrocity's Alex Krull and his modern Mastersound Studio. I personally don't think this polished production work fits the Belphegor concept that well but I guess it is in the ears of the beholder. Musically they have also become more varied, including plenty of death metal blast beats and a song like the doomy "Sepulture Of Hypocrisy" definitely shows that the band are trying to widen their musical horizon. If you add a touch of Morbid Angel's early 90s sound to their older releases then you will get an idea of where Belphegor is heading. "Goatreich..." will not redefine the black metal genre but it is yet another quality release from one of the most reliable Austrian bands.
