Do you think that there are few bands today who offer us good quality grinding death metal in the vein of Brutal Truth or old Carcass? Then you might want to check out this French band called Benighted. Sure, there are no revolutionary innovations here and most of the riffs have been heard already but they have produced a professional sounding, tight and brutal album. The vocalist Julien Truchan lets his strained chords shift between guttural growling and grindcore screams very nicely. Adipocere Records have had a few impressive underground bands signed to the label in the past such as Moonspell and Crypt Of Kerberos but Benighted is one of the best current signings. During the recordings the band worked with producer Christian Kholemannsleiner (Agathodaimon, Destinity, Ad Inferna...) who provided a clear sounding production.
The band's debut album "Psychose" had quite a few black metal elements but most of them have been removed now in order to focus their attention on death metal solely. I think it was a good choice because this is where their strength lies. Semi-technical on occasion but always focused and violent, these French guys have penned down ten good grinding death metal songs. The extreme metal scene in France is healthy and Benighted is one of the brightest hopes for the future. Intense, tight and brutal enough to satisfy your desire for blood. This is the hammer that will smash your face. You have been warned. Favorite pick: "Self-Proclaimed God".
