REVIEW: Beto Vazquez Infinity - Infinity Drakkar Records, 2002
8/10
Beto Vazquez Infinity - Infinity - cover art Ever since Yngwie Malmsteen started out every single 'guitar hero' must have his own project and here is the latest in a long row of such releases. Beto Vazquez is actually from Argentina but unlike his country in general he seems to be doing fairly well at the moment. Some of you may remember him from the now defunct band Nepal where he wrote most of the music. Now he presents his own project called "Infinity" where he takes advantage of some of the best metal musicians in the world (that is from the softer, more progressive side). This is definitely not the heaviest album out there and there are actually very few songs on the album that could even be categorized as metal but this is still a very nice album. Besides Beto Vázquez there are a number of other Argentinian musicians featured on this album. Jörg Michael from Stratovarius performs the drums and the vocal duty is shared between Tarja Turunen (Nightwish), Sabine Edelsbacher (Edenbridge), Candice Night (Blackmore's Night) and Fabio Lione (Rhapsody). You might compare this album to the Ayreon projects although this one is not as weird and futuristic. The music is very nice, especially the tracks with flutes where Candice's caressing vocals take lead. Unfortunately the rest of the tracks aren't that exciting and the vocal performances from Tarja, Sabine and Fabio are pretty weak compared to what they do in their other bands. Still, this is a very strong release, especially for those of you who enjoy soft, and I do mean soft, symphonic and melodic metal with female vocals.
