REVIEW: Bilharzia - Bloodfluke (EP) Misery Records, 2001
6/10
Bilharzia - Bloodfluke (EP) - cover art Bilharzia is a brutal death metal band from Ipoh, Malaysia, that was formed back in 1998. Now they have found themselves a deal with the native label Misery Records who have released this cassette EP in October 2001. The music of Bilharzia is actually surprisingly well performed and I really didn't expect this kind of quality from a South East Asian band. Unfortunately it is still very hard to enjoy the release since it suffers from a very bad sound quality just like most other releases from this area. This in turn leads to very hollow drums, a thin and noisy guitar sound and vocals that are very hard to hear. This is a shame because these guys are highly skilles death metal musicians who deserve something a lot better than this. Malaysia is a country that is in possession of some very high technical knowledge and also a country still in strong growth. If the government could be a little more open-minded then bands like Bilharzia could get the support they need to make themselves known all over the world. No matter what you say, politics is important in today's world. Musically this is very interesting, sound-wise it is some of the worst I have heard so far.
