REVIEW: Biolich - The Space Between Home And Today Paragon Records, 2005
8.5/10
Biolich - The Space Between Home And Today - cover art Upon listening to this Album the obvious Demilich inspiration is immediately evident, the thing that makes Biolich so interesting is that they are better than the band that they are obviously inspired by. Being a fan of Demilich’s peculiar vocal style I was ecstatic when I heard the initial “belched forth from the pits of hell growl” on Morals Like Frozen Piss. Every member of the band apparently contributes vocally to this album and the most prevalent vocal styles are the aforementioned extremely low growls and some screams throughout. I would however like to know who is responsible for the Emo style atrocity about 3:30 through Morals…, it last for about 15 seconds and it only appears on this song but was it really necessary? At any rate this album is progressive, technical, extreme, and absolutely mind – numbingly brutal and aside from that mishap on the first song I love it. The production seems to make it a bit quiet but aside from that it compliments the music perfectly, the drummer is insane and there are a good number of the ever so essential blast beats on this record. You can actually hear the bassist and he does a damn fine job along with the guitarist who is quite honestly essential to the overall sound produced by Biolich. I had never heard of this band before but they were an extremely pleasant surprise and I would like to think that if Demilich had not split up this is what they would have sounded like. Even though the CD only clocks in at 25:52 I highly recommend it to any fan of extreme music, especially technical severely odd extreme music. Extra notes: Biolich continues the Demilich trend of extremely long outlandish song titles with Unfortunately…, and the instrumental song Ikon Sumo sounds like the soundtrack to a lonely train station in some anime, very odd and very cool.
