Push play. The bottom falls out and massive, distorted riffs accompanied by punishing percussion simply overwhelm. Black Cobra is here with something true to the album's name, Bestial, and this sucker is sick. We're talkin' thick, syrupy sickness like washin' down a bottle of quaaludes with a pint of Robitussin. Though there are quiet interludes on the record, the bulk is heavy, loud, distorted, and pulsating like the blood boiling in your ears upon listening. That two and only two bastards are responsible for this incredible hulk is all the more impressive. We've got an ex-Cavity guy on guitar and an ex-16 guy on drums (Jason and Rafael, respectively) and the result is akin to Eyehategod without the trappings of excessive members. Some of that killer new Black Americana sound from the mighty Earth can be witnessed on "El Duce de Octubre" until the sound of being crushed is let loose. If 5ive was too introspective for you, this may be straight forward enough to suitably kick down your door. Vocals are of the Hardcore, yelled variety and work well within the context of Orange amps turned up to 11 with an overdose of reverb and pummeling drums. Killer. Bonus points are earned for being a dynamic duo.
