The Italian extreme metal scene has a few interesting bands that the world should get to know and Black Flame is one of them. The band was formed in 1999 and features former Daemusinem and Mortuary Drape drummer m:A Fog. "Torment & Glory" is a new album but the songs are from previous releases, however all re-recorded and re-arranged exclusively for this release to make the most of them. The CD version, limited to 1000 copies, comes with a bonus track "My World..." which can not be found on the vinyl version handled by the American underground label Shades Of Death. Those familiar with Black Flame will recognize their cold, harsh and primitive form of black metal, accompanied by chilling vocals from the frontman Cardinala Italo Martire. The vocals lack a strong personality and the song structures are a little bit too simple and repetitive to really make this release stand out from the masses. There are some moments where they show a more interesting side of themselves though, for example in "Burn With Me!" which is a more dynamic song where there is more than one nuance of black. The ominous and intense atmosphere of "Orgiastic Funeral" is also quite impressive. It is difficult to get a grip of Black Flame but they do have a few refreshing ideas.
