REVIEW: Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer I.R.S. Records, 1992
9/10
Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer - cover art Even though I despise most of the music that was released by Miles Copeland's I.R.S. Records you have to give them credit for signing the mighty Black Sabbath. The band was at this time way past their days of glory and therefore this album came as a bit of a surprise. Geezer Butler, Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Vinny Appice are four living legends in the history of metal and you can not complain about the line-up on this album. "Dehumanizer" marks a new but unfortunately only temporary peak in the band's career and we are once again offered the old classic Black Sabbath sound that once upon a time made them what they are today. That slow heavy guitar driven sound has influenced thousands of bands all over the world and it is nice to see that these guys were still able to get together once again to create wonderful songs such as "Computer God" and "Letters From Earth", if so only for one album. "Letters From Earth" is actually one of the best songs the band has written since the 70's and it is lifted even higher through the wonderful vocals from Dio. If you want to buy one Black Sabbath release from the 90's then there is no doubt that this should be the one. It does of course not reach the perfection of their early material when Ozzy was around but it is still a great album.
