Black Sabbath is probably the most influential heavy metal band ever. Musicians from all genres have found something in their music worth admiring, from straight-forward heavy metal through doom and black metal, every genre has something to thank Black Sabbath for. They are also one of the best examples of the fact that music doesn't have to be complex to be good. Instead Black Sabbath rely on a few simple guitar riffs in each song, melodic vocals, the unique voice of the legend Ozzy himself, the dynamic drumming from Bill Ward and some well placed solos. They never take it too far but manage to maintain a nice balance between every element in their songs. After their impressive self-titled debut album from the year before few could have guessed that they could follow that one up with a new album just as strong, or if possible even stronger. Yet again they managed to write an album full of hits, something that very few bands have ever done before or after them. From the straightforward heavy metal classic "Paranoid" to the everlasting "Iron Man", from the calm psychedelic "Planet Caravan" to the drug induced hallucinations of "Fairies Wear Boots". Even now, more than 30 years later, this album can not only be regarded as important to the history of modern rock music but easily stands as one of the strongest metal releases ever. Every single song is close to perfect and it is only out of disrespect to one of the founding fathers of the metal scene that you could not have it in your record collection.
