From a formulaic stance, it doesn't get much more evil, brutal, and heavy than speed-picking to a tempo at blast speed. However, an entire CD of this formula isn't any of the three aforementioned traits. The riffs blur, the snare drum becomes irritating, and the overall tone becomes dull. While Black Witchery have a few decent riffs and transitions, overall it's too much of one thing. The lack of dynamics in composition make for a labored listen, the kind that keeps you reaching for the search button on your stereo. Combine that with decent but inconsistent vocals and childish, too-serious-for-its-own-good Satanic imagery and you've got Black Witchery's Upheaval Of Satanic Might. It's not really black metal, not really death metal and honestly not something I'd recommend for fans of either. It sounds like if old-school death metallers Spawn of Satan totally lost their sense of humor and songwriting talent, or a starter kit for playing brutal extreme music. If you can spot a drum fill on here, let me know. The greats know how to break up snare hits with tom and cymbal work, thus making the blasts all the more powerful. There are some wicked riffs here, so if you're already a fan I'd scout eBay and your local used bins first. Not worth the price of admission.
