REVIEW: Blackend - The Last Thing Undone Massacre Records, 2001
7/10
Blackend - The Last Thing Undone - cover art Those of you who remember what old Metallica and Testament used to sound like have a pretty good picture of what to expect from Blackend. This German thrash metal now has three full-length albums and more than 200 live shows behind them and their experience in the metal scene has made them even stronger than before. They are still not playing in the same league as Metallica and perhaps they don´t quite reach Testament level either but they are at least one of the leading German thrash metal bands today. The amazing choruses on the first two tracks and the beautiful intro of "Darkest Day" makes this a memorable and also recommendable album and since thrash metal seems to be fading away today Blackend is more than welcome to take the place of the old giants. The album is a little short in my opinion and since not all of the songs are of first class the band still has a little more work to do in order to reach the top. Twenty years ago this would have been groundbreaking music but today it is not.
