This album marks the beginning of a new
musical era in the glorious career of guitar wizard Ritchie Blackmore. Most of
you probably know of his work with the metal pioneers Deep Purple and Rainbow
but with his new project he has more or less left his roots in heavier music
behind him. The idea behind Blackmore's Night was to create medieval and
renaissance music with a modern touch and together with the silky soft voice
of his girlfriend Candice Night he has created music that is from a modern
viewpoint far more interesting than what he did with his old bands. The debut
album from the couple is of course also guested by a horde of session
musicians who handle most instruments you can think of. The music is mostly
acoustic, slow, melodic and mellow but sometimes it bursts into speed playing
where the talents of Blackmore fully come to show once again. This album is a
little too long though and there are unfortunately a couple of tracks that
should never have made it onto the album. This is a shame because otherwise
the songs are amazing and the singing from Candice Night is something of the
most beautiful you will ever come to experience in your life. Recommended to
everyone who appreciates good music and if you don't then there is not much I
can do for you, I'm afraid... This album have the nature of a debut album
with some minor mistakes but it is still a wonderful album that is perfect for
a late summer night. Stand-out tracks: "Shadow Of The Moon", "Play Minstrel
Play", "Writing On The Wall", "No Second Chance", "Mond
Tanz".
