REVIEW: Blaze - Tenth Dimension Steamhammer Records, 2002
8/10
Blaze - Tenth Dimension - cover art After leaving the British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden in 1999 the vocalist Blaze Bayley decided to form his own band. The debut album "Silicon Messiah" was released in 2000 and now the second one is finished. Even though the voice of Blaze is far from being as strong as that of Bruce Dickinson this is a great album from the band and I am really glad that they keep the spirit of British heavy metal alive without trying to become just another boring nu-metal band among a hundred others. The only exception to this is the somewhat strange sounding "Nothing Will Stop Me" which kind of sticks out a little from the rest of the tracks. Even though their music is firmly rooted in the 70's and 80's NWOBHM scene the lyrical concept of the album is a futuristic one just like it was on their debut. If you like Iron Maiden then you would be very interested in listening to this new release from Blaze because especially the vocal lines are very similar. Once again the album was produced by Andy Sneap who have also worked with bands like Machine Head and Stuck Mojo. There is still something missing though for Blaze to find their way to the top of the metal mountain. Tracks like the catchy title track and the beautiful ballad "Meant To Be" show that they certainly have it in them though.
