To be honest I really appreciate some of the NWOAHM acts that combine the Swedish ‘Gothenburg’ death metal sound with American metalcore. I am a fan of Killswitch Engage, Unearth and maybe a few others but that’s also it. Now that this style has become a musical trend and almost every new metalcore band receives airplay on MTV it really starts to piss me off. Enough is enough! Every riff and melody together with ‘sweet’ emo-screams have already been used and abused. Everyone is angry at something and each band keeps on using the word ‘Revolution’ in their records. How about a revolution against this new trend? Just the fact that you are heavy and scream a lot doesn’t mean that you make good music! Now that labels such as Roadrunner, Metal Blade and Century Media have rushed to sign as many bands as possible it left Nuclear Blast doing just the same. The difference between these labels is that the first three ones mentioned do have a few great bands of the genre in their roster but I can’t say that about Nuclear Blast and Bleed The Sky. Don’t get me wrong though because these guys from Orange County, California are capable musicians and play decent metalcore but it is just so boring. Now and then a few cool trash and death metal riffs pop up but the damage is already done. Nothing they play hasn’t been heard before and doesn’t even have a little touch of originality. Of course if you are crazy about discovering new metalcore sensations then you should get this but for those who had enough, don’t bother. The era that Nuclear Blast only released great and true metal artists has come to an end but at least they keep supporting their ‘heavyweight’ bands which can’t be said about one of the other mentioned labels.
