REVIEW: Blessed - Consume 3000 Self-financed, 2001
6.5/10
Blessed - Consume 3000 - cover art If I start off by informing you all that Blessed is a Swedish death metal band you might start associating to the by now legendary Gothenburg sound invented by bands like At The Gates and In Flames. These are clearly some of the main influences on this band but although they have some beautiful melodies similar to those of early In Flames there are also influences from the more brutal vein of death metal, especially as it comes to the brutal but very good vocals. The band had the target set for this recording to sound better than their promo cd from 1999 and even though I haven't had the chance to listen to that one I daresay they have achieved what they wanted. Unlike many other self-financed releases the sound quality on this one is very good but of course not perfect. The band actually recorded it in their very own studio called "Unholy". Blessed has existed since 1996 and to me it seems like the time is now right for someone to offer them a deal. Perhaps they would be a nice addition to the death metal horde on Hammerheart? This album deserves a grade one or two steps higher but since the production has some minor flaws I have lowered it.
