REVIEW: Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera Virgin Records, 2002
9.5/10
Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera - cover art Blind Guardian have returned again with their most complex, heaviest and I also believe longest album so far. "A Night At The Opera" is one of the metal releases of 2002 that I have been looking forward to the most and I was not to be disappointed with this new masterpiece from the German Tolkien fans. The music continues in the same vein as on their last album with a very thick sound, beautiful melodies and powerful choir vocals. Hansi is doing his job better and better with each new release and I can't do much else but lie back and enjoy. This is musical art at the highest possible level and there are no other band like Blind Guardian out there today. The only thing I would have liked to see a little bit more of is the folky, slower passages from the "Nightfall..." album. There are plenty of that here as well, it's just that they are often buried in the massive sound. If you wanted Blind Guardian heavier and more powerful you can now see your wish come true. I don't know if this is their best album so far but it is definitely among them. I personally stick with the last album I think.
