REVIEW: Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera Virgin Records, 2002
7/10
Blind Guardian - A Night At The Opera - cover art To begin with, this is the longest freakin' cd I've ever heard! It's a pleasant listening experience albeit a strain for those with a short attention span (like me). I wasn't compelled to sit and listen intently from the start to finish but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. Production is quite good and it is evident that much time was spent to make a coherent audio image from the multitude of layered parts and harmonies that comprise each song. The boys have built upon the premise that if a little layering is good, a little more is better, even more than that must be stinking awesome. I dont know... This cd debuted quite high on the german charts and made quite an initial splash, but in the end I think it's a good cd, a little typical of B.G. but not ground breaking or the work that every later Blind Guardian cd will be judged by.
