REVIEW: Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side Virgin Records, 1995
10/10
Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side - cover art Hyperspeed drumming, beautiful melodies, powerful choir arrangements and amazing vocals from Hansi Kürsch. Yes, the guys in Blind Guardian have done it again. They have yet again outdone themselves and "Imaginations From The Other Side" is a big improvement on their last album, almost reaching the ultimate level of pure perfection. As usual the vocals from Hansi are very protruding and they are only getting better with each new release. Blind Guardian started out under the name Lucifer's Heritage in the mid-80s and since then they have become one of the most unique and leading forces in the world of metal. They are also one of the very few metal bands who have been signed by a major mainstream label and also one of the few who have managed to stay away from the common pestilence called line-up changes. Blind Guardian has often been referred to as a power metal band but this description doesn't really do them justice. They don't have that much in common with bands like Edguy or Hammerfall since their style of playing is a lot more varied and dynamic. Melodic speed metal would probably be a better label if you absolutely must have one. One thing for sure is that these guys are some of the most talented musicians this world has had the pleasure of enjoying. The final track on the album bears the rather ominous title "And The Story Ends" but don't you worry. The Blind Guardian story is not over yet and we have a lot more to look forward to.
