This
is Blind Guardian at their best - fast melodic power metal with lots of rhythm
guitars and catchy vocals. This might be the band's best release since their
debut in 1988 and it is hard to find one single bad song on this album (unless
you hate this type of music of course...). Blind Guardian is one of the most
melodic metal bands in the world and also one of the most popular ones of all
time, together with bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Manowar
and Iron Maiden. This album was mixed by Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica) at
Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark (interludes by Charlie
Bauerfeind). It consists of 22 tracks but about half of them are spoken
interludes by two hired narrators since it is a concept album based upon the
story "The Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien (the author the whole band is
based upon and they have evendedicated this album to him). All lyrics and
stories on the album has been written by the singer Hansi Kürsch who is one of
the best metal vocalists in the world (he also did the vocals for track No 9 -
"Flesh Of The Gods" - on the latest Therion release "Deggial", 2000).
Except for the band members themselves (Kürsch, André Olbrich, Marcus Siepen
and Thomas Stauch) you can also hear four hired choir singers and four other
musicians to play bass, keyboards, piano and flutes. If your record collection
misses this piece you should try to get it as soon as possible because there
aren't many albums this good!
