REVIEW: Blind Guardian - Tales From The Twilight World No Remorse Records, 1990
9/10
Blind Guardian - Tales From The Twilight World - cover art Blind Guardian are one of the very few metal bands who have found a way to charm the mainstream crown and this is no coincidence because they are simply amazing. They are perhaps not the best metal band ever but the warmth and energy of their music can hardly be found anywhere else. The most important element of Blind Guardian is without a doubt the nothing else but brilliant vocals by master magician Hansi Kürsch although the musicians behind him are also some of the most skilled metal musicians in the world. The mix of heavy guitars, acoustic strings, choirs, special effects and Hansi's very own voice creates a unique atmosphere and Blind Guardian might be the only metal band whose music could be described as cozy. "Tales From The Twilight World" is not the best album from the band but compared to most other bands it is still great. The first album "Battalions Of Fear" was in my opinion a little better but that one was more straight-forward and based mostly on the guitars. Blind Guardian has now started to experiment and develop a new sound that would eventually lead up to the magnificent masterpiece "Nightfall In Middle-Earth". The first four tracks on this album are of the same breath-taking quality as before but then the sound gets a bit old towards the end. Still this album has a place in metal history just like all other albums from Blind Guardian, one of the few power metal bands with a style of their own.
