Blind Stare is another band who tries to fight their way into the overcrowded Scandinavien melodeath scene. They started out in Turku, Finland, back in 1999 and produced a row of demos until they attracted the attention of the Spanish label Arise Records. Graced with exceptional cover art from former Ancient Rites guitarist Jan "Örkki" Yrlund you probably wonder if what lies within has the capability of matching the beautiful exterior. The simple monoword answer must in all honesty be no but a man of few words never makes a point. Blind Stare are definitely not a talentless band who were lucky enough to trick an ignorant record company into signing them. On the contrary they appear to be very serious about what they're doing and are skilled musicians both individually and as a collective. Then where do they fail? Fail is a strong word in my book and Blind Stare easily manage to escape disaster by proving themselves as decent song writers. Mixing fast-paced Children Of Bodom escapades with viking-esque Ensiferum nods they pick up various pieces from the well-known Finnish scene and put them together in their own way. No songs really stick out and perhaps they should work harder on creating memorable riffs and let the keyboard fall back slightly next time but overall this is a more than decent album supported by a strong production that is definitely suited for fans of the folky Finnish melo-death sound.
