REVIEW: Blood Of Roses - Sangue Gray Wolf Records, 1997
8.5/10
Blood Of Roses - Sangue - cover art When you listen to the commercial radio stations these days it doesn't take long before you either get fed up with the same boring songs playing over and over again or you realize after a while that you haven't heard anything at all for an hour. It is a real shame that creative and original musicians like the two members of the Blood Of Roses project because they do know how to compose music that contains the passion and originality that most bands or artists are lacking today. For all of you who don't listen to nothing but metal I want to say that you should try to open your minds for a minute or two because there is lots of good music that is not metal although the commercial radio stations are doing their best to hide this fact. The music industry always follows trends and also do their best to create new trends to follow but the true musicians who follow nothing but their own hearts and minds are very rare to find. However I am rather sure that the Californian duo of Roberta Lengua (a.k.a. Bird) and James Henriques are two of these. Even though this is not metal there is so much power and passion in the beautiful and very unique voice of Roberta's that fans of metal can without a doubt also enjoy this release. The majestic orchestration done by James Henriques is also very well done and on a couple of tracks it shows tinges of metal orchestration. I have to admit that I listen mainly to metal of all kinds these days but this is without a doubt an album that will be spending some time in my cd player in the future as well. I feel that I have to give these guys some words of advice though: if they continue sending out these overambitious promo packages they will soon be ruining themselves which would be a real pity :-).
