REVIEW: Blood Red Throne - Come Death Earache, 2007
8/10
Blood Red Throne - Come Death - cover art Blood Red Throne have returned in 2007 to punish with their brand of American Death Metal-sounding extremism, albeit colored (blood red, natch!) through their Norwegian eyes. If album predecessor Altered Genesis only served to whet the appetites of Death Metal aficionados around the world, know that Come Death will have the same sufficiently seduced yet again. The band's fourth studio release sees Død, Tchort (both on guitars), and Erlend (bass) welcome new blood: Anders (drums) and Vald (vocals). While not re-inventing anything, Vald does offer a more varied vocal approach than former lead throat Mr. Hustler. Not surprisingly, the music offered here is of a familiar yet very high quality.

This time around BRT reportedly aimed for a "more classic death metal sound, a la Gorguts Considered Dead / Suffocation Despise the Sun" -- an interesting pairing since production changed a lot between 1990 and 1998, the respective years per album. While the production on Come Death sounds great, the bass truly shines -- again! With all the maniacal rumbling one simply has to ask: "Izzat the undead specter of Steve DiGiorgio?" Erlend has become a veritable master of the 4-string m0ther fuck3r, major rager or no.... It is also worth noting that "Disincarnated" is a cover of none other than Gorguts (yes, from the aforementioned album) that seamlessly fits with the album's original songs. Bottom line: if well done Brutal Death Metal finds favor, definitely check out Come Death.
