REVIEW: Bludgeon - Crucify The Priest Metal Blade Records, 2002
7.5/10
Bludgeon - Crucify The Priest - cover art Bludgeon is perhaps most known to be the first band that signed to Manowar's own label Magic Circle Music and the first project outside Manowar to be produced by Joey DeMaio himself. This is not the only reason why you should put this name on your mind because these four Chicago based men have created a very interesting debut album that sounds like a mix of Morbid Angel, Slayer and newer Venom. Mixing the best elements of every single style of extreme metal they have put together twelve crushing tracks of pure heavy music. I like this band very much but I think they should put in a little more effort next time to make their music more complex and perhaps a little faster at times. Bludgeon of today relies more on heaviness, power and aggressiveness than melody and speed but somehow they still make their music sound really good which is something I credit them for. When listening to this album you realize very quickly that Bludgeon will become one of the leading bands on the extreme metal scene in the near future and I think you should give this band a try if you are into this kind of music.
